MicroNet-U UMTS catcher is designed for use either separately or along with Micronet GSM IMSI and IMEI catcher allowing user to set up a fragment of UMTS 2100 network within certain coverage area and collect UMTS mobile terminals identities.

By standard, UMTS networks employ mutual base station/mobile terminal authentication and direct collection of cellphones identities is not achievable. But, as soon as UMTS standard allows for inter-operability with GSM, it becomes possible to force any dual-mode terminal (GSM/UMTS) operating in UMTS to migrate to GSM network, read UMTS terminal identites and detect its location.


MicroNet-U can be used by resque teams, police forces and other authorised users to detect exact location of mobile terminals in areas under natural disasters or during police investigations. The unit is very compact and can be carried in a mid-sized bag. NetMonitor unit supplied along with MicroNet-U UMTS catcher is used to monitor and analyze RF spectrum within the area.

MicroNet-U functionality

NETWORK SCAN: The unit automatically scans all active UMTS networks in the area

IDs COLLECTION: The unit detects all UMTS phones present within the coverage area and collects relevant IMSI, IMEI and TMSI (from 1 to 3 per second). Also, the system detects mobile handset model and origin.

LOCATION DETECTION: This feature is implemented using directional antenna, but the accuracy is lower compared to GSM direction finder.

MIGRATION TO 2G: User can force selected UMTS handset to register with 2G GSM network.

BLOCKING: The system allows to block UMTS service for either selected mobile handset(s) or handsets served by a particular UMTS operator.

TARGET LIST: User can work with pre-set target list and receive instant report once the target mobile terminal moves into the MicroNet-U coverage area.

COMPARISON: This feature allows to compare IMSI and IMEI data collected during different periods of time.

AUTOMATIC MODE: MicroNet-U can perform repeated automatic network scans and store collected information in separate files/folders.
